Surah Al-Fil


Surah Al-Fil (The Elephant) is the 105. surah in Quran.Al-Fil surah is listed as the 19. by revelation order.

It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. This surah takes its name from the word mentioned in the first ayah.

This surah tells the story of a historical event said to have occurred in Mecca. An army with war elephants tried to attack Kaaba but was stopped and destroyed by birds that threw baked clay (lava stone) on to them by God’s command. This war had happened before the birth of the prophet Muhammad and there are some historical facts that support some of these events.

105:1
Have you not considered, [O Muḥammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?
Alam tara kaifa fa’ala rabbuka bi ashaabil feel
ألم تر كيف فعل ربك بأصحـب ٱلفيل
105:2
Did He not make their plan into misguidance?
Alam yaj’al kaidahum fee tadleel
ألم يجعل كيدهم فى تضليل
105:3
And He sent against them birds in flocks,
Wa arsala ‘alaihim tairan abaabeel
وأرسل عليهم طيرا أبابيل
105:4
Striking them with stones of hard clay,
Tarmeehim bihijaaratim min sijjeel
ترميهم بحجارة من سجيل
105:5
And He made them like eaten straw.
Faja ‘alahum ka’asfim m’akool
فجعلهم كعصف مأكول
