Surah Al-Kafirun


Surah Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers) is the 109. surah in Quran.Al-Kafirun surah is listed as the 18. by revelation order.

It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. This surah takes its name from the word mentioned in the first ayah.

This surah is the best example of no compulsion in Islam. It is also the most clear example of secularity in the Quran. This surah addresses the unbelievers and tells them that they have their own religion. The believers never worship what they worship and those unbelievers do not as well. Thus, it is best to say “your religion to you, my religion to me” to the unbelievers. 

109:1
Say, "O disbelievers,
Qul yaaa-ayyuhal kaafiroon
قل يـأيها ٱلكـفرون
109:2
I do not worship what you worship.
Laaa a’budu maa t’abudoon
لا أعبد ما تعبدون
109:3
Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.
Wa laaa antum ‘aabidoona maaa a’bud
ولا أنتم عـبدون ما أعبد
109:4
Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.
Wa laaa ana ‘abidum maa ‘abattum
ولا أنا عابد ما عبدتم
109:5
Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.
Wa laaa antum ‘aabidoona maaa a’bud
ولا أنتم عـبدون ما أعبد
109:6
For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."
Lakum deenukum wa liya deen
لكم دينكم ولى دين
