This and the preceding surah, Al-Falaq ("Daybreak"), are known as "the Refuges" (Al-Mu'awwidhatayn): dealing with roughly the same theme, they form a natural pair.
As a continuation of the previous surah, this surah also is a prayer to ask for protection from God against evil. This surah has more emphasis on seeking protection with God, in comparison to the previous surah, which had more emphasis on seeking protection against evil, so there is a reciprocity between these two surahs.
This surah talks only about one evil, the devil and the act of whispering into the heart of humans. We ask refuge from this to one and only God, Lord and sovereign of mankind.
