It is believed this surah was revealed in the Second Meccan Period so it is a Meccan surah. The main theme of this Surah is about Prophets and Prophethood and this is where the surah takes its name from.
All Prophets were mortal human beings. They suffered at the hands of their enemies. Allah tested them, but they always trusted in Allah and lived according to His command. They faced adversity but they turned to Allah with prayers and Allah responded with mercy.
The theme for all prophets is the same. Prophets are chosen by God and sent to their people with warnings and messages of God. They are rejected and treated badly, only few obey them and follow them. In the end God will punish the disbelievers and help the followers and the prophets.
The surah talks about the oneness of God and how all prophets testify to God’s greatness and unity. Angels should not be worshiped as they are the servant of God. All beings will face death. In this surah it mentions by the name the Prophets Moses, Aaron, Abraham, Muhammad, Noah, Davidm Solomon, Jesus, Jonah, Zachariah, Lot, Job.
There is only one true religion but people always create sects to have their own version and stray away from the true religion.
