Surah Adh-Dhariyat


Surah Adh-Dhariyat (The Winnowing Winds) is the 51. surah in Quran.Adh-Dhariyat surah is listed as the 67. by revelation order.

The meaning of surah Adh-Dhariyat is The Winnowing Winds. In total this surah is consist of 60 auahs. You can read Adh-Dhariyat by word by word if you would like to examine it in details or click one of the ayahs below to check that ayah only.

It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. The surah takes its name from the opening ayah. 

The surah mentions Abraham, Noah, Ad, Thamud, and the day of judgment, and reiterates the essential Quranic message. It starts with oaths that the judgment will come.

 It talks about the prophets and the people who have gotten destroyed for disbelieving them. Prophets are always called magicians or mad men by their own tribes. The story of angels sent down to destroy Sodom and save prophet Lut and their interaction with prophet Abraham. 

51:1
By the [winds] scattering [dust], dispersing [it]
Waz-zaariyaati zarwaa
وٱلذريـت ذروا
51:2
And the [clouds] carrying a load [of water]
Falhaamilaati wiqraa
فٱلحـملـت وقرا
51:3
And the ships sailing with ease
Faljaariyaati yusraa
فٱلجـريـت يسرا
51:4
And the [angels] apportioning [each] matter,
Falmuqassimaati amraa
فٱلمقسمـت أمرا
51:5
Indeed, what you are promised is true.
Innamaa too’adoona la-saadiq
إنما توعدون لصادق
51:6
And indeed, the recompense is to occur.
Wa innad deena la waaqi’
وإن ٱلدين لوقع
51:7
By the heaven containing pathways,
Wassamaaa’i zaatil hubuk
وٱلسماء ذات ٱلحبك
51:8
Indeed, you are in differing speech.
Innakum lafee qawlim mukhtalif
إنكم لفى قول مختلف
51:9
Deluded away from it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is he who is deluded.
Yu’faku ‘anhu man ufik
يؤفك عنه من أفك
51:10
Destroyed are the misinformers
Qutilal kharraasoon
قتل ٱلخرصون
51:11
Who are within a flood [of confusion] and heedless.
Allazeena hum fee ghamratin saahoon
ٱلذين هم فى غمرة ساهون
51:12
They ask, "When is the Day of Recompense?"
Yas’aloona ayyaana yawmud Deen
يسـلون أيان يوم ٱلدين
51:13
[It is] the Day they will be tormented over the Fire.
Yawma hum ‘alan naari yuftanoon
يوم هم على ٱلنار يفتنون
51:14
[And will be told], "Taste your torment. This is that for which you were impatient."
Zooqoo fitnatakum haa zal lazee kuntum bihee tas ta’jiloon
ذوقوا فتنتكم هـذا ٱلذى كنتم بهۦ تستعجلون
51:15
Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs,
Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa ‘uyoon
إن ٱلمتقين فى جنـت وعيون
51:16
Accepting what their Lord has given them. Indeed, they were before that doers of good.
Aakhizeena maaa aataahum Rabbuhum; innahum kaanoo qabla zaalika muhsineen
ءاخذين ما ءاتىهم ربهم إنهم كانوا قبل ذلك محسنين
51:17
They used to sleep but little of the night,
kaanoo qaleelam minal laili maa yahja’oon
كانوا قليلا من ٱليل ما يهجعون
51:18
And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness,
Wa bil as haari hum yastaghfiroon
وبٱلأسحار هم يستغفرون
51:19
And from their properties was [given] the right of the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.
Wa feee amwaalihim haqqul lissaaa’ili walmahroom
وفى أمولهم حق للسائل وٱلمحروم
51:20
And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith]
Wa fil ardi aayaatul lilmooqineen
وفى ٱلأرض ءايـت للموقنين
51:21
And in yourselves. Then will you not see?
Wa feee anfusikum; afalaa tubsiroon
وفى أنفسكم أفلا تبصرون
51:22
And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.
Wa fissamaaa’i rizqukum wa maa too’adoon
وفى ٱلسماء رزقكم وما توعدون
51:23
Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.
Fawa Rabbis samaaa’i wal ardi innahoo lahaqqum misla maa annakum tantiqoon
فورب ٱلسماء وٱلأرض إنهۥ لحق مثل ما أنكم تنطقون
51:24
Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? -
Hal ataaka hadeesu daifi Ibraaheemal mukrameen
هل أتىك حديث ضيف إبرهيم ٱلمكرمين
51:25
When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace; [you are] a people unknown."
Iz dakhaloo ‘alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala salaamun qawmum munkaroon
إذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلـما قال سلـم قوم منكرون
51:26
Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf.
Faraagha ilaaa ahlihee fajaaa’a bi’ijlin sameen
فراغ إلى أهلهۦ فجاء بعجل سمين
51:27
And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?"
Faqarrabahooo ilaihim qaala alaa taakuloon
فقربهۥ إليهم قال ألا تأكلون
51:28
And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy.
Fa awjasa minhum khee fatan qaaloo laa takhaf wa bashsharoohu bighulaamin ‘aleem
فأوجس منهم خيفة قالوا لا تخف وبشروه بغلـم عليم
51:29
And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!"
Fa aqbalatim ra-atuhoo fee sarratin fasakkat wajhahaa wa qaalat ‘ajoozun ‘aqeem
فأقبلت ٱمرأتهۥ فى صرة فصكت وجهها وقالت عجوز عقيم
51:30
They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing."
Qaaloo kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki innahoo huwal hakeemul ‘aleem (End Juz 26)
قالوا كذلك قال ربك إنهۥ هو ٱلحكيم ٱلعليم
51:31
[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"
Qaala famaa khatbukum ayyuhal mursaloon
قال فما خطبكم أيها ٱلمرسلون
51:32
They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals
Qaalooo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen
قالوا إنا أرسلنا إلى قوم مجرمين
51:33
To send down upon them stones of clay,
Linursila ‘alaihim hijaa ratam min teen
لنرسل عليهم حجارة من طين
51:34
Marked in the presence of your Lord for the transgressors."
Musawwamatan ‘inda rabbika lilmusrifeen
مسومة عند ربك للمسرفين
51:35
So We brought out whoever was in them [i.e., the cities] of the believers.
Fa akhrajnaa man kaana feehaa minal mu’mineen
فأخرجنا من كان فيها من ٱلمؤمنين
51:36
And We found not within them other than a [single] house of Muslims.
Famaa wajadnaa feehaa ghaira baitim minal muslimeen
فما وجدنا فيها غير بيت من ٱلمسلمين
51:37
And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
Wa taraknaa feehaaa aayatal lillazeena yakhaafoonal ‘azaabal aleem
وتركنا فيها ءاية للذين يخافون ٱلعذاب ٱلأليم
51:38
And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.
Wa fee Moosaaa iz arsalnaahu ilaa Fir’awna bisultaa nim mubeen
وفى موسى إذ أرسلنـه إلى فرعون بسلطـن مبين
51:39
But he turned away with his supporters and said, "A magician or a madman."
Fatawalla biruknihee wa qaala saahirun aw majnoon
فتولى بركنهۦ وقال سـحر أو مجنون
51:40
So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.
Fa akhaznaahu wa junoo dahoo fanabaznaahum fil yammi wa huwa muleem
فأخذنـه وجنودهۥ فنبذنـهم فى ٱليم وهو مليم
51:41
And in ʿAad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind.
Wa fee ‘Aadin iz arsalnaa ‘alaihimur reehal’aqeem
وفى عاد إذ أرسلنا عليهم ٱلريح ٱلعقيم
51:42
It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.
Maa tazaru min shai’in atat ‘alaihi illaa ja’alat hu karrameem
ما تذر من شىء أتت عليه إلا جعلته كٱلرميم
51:43
And in Thamūd, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."
Wa fee Samooda iz qeela lahum tamatta”oo hattaa heen
وفى ثمود إذ قيل لهم تمتعوا حتى حين
51:44
But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.
Fa’ataw ‘an amri Rabbihim fa akhazat humus saa’iqatu wa hum yanzuroon
فعتوا عن أمر ربهم فأخذتهم ٱلصـعقة وهم ينظرون
51:45
And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.
Famas tataa’oo min qiyaaminw wa maa kaanoo muntasireen
فما ٱستطـعوا من قيام وما كانوا منتصرين
51:46
And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
Wa qawma Noohim min qablu innahum kaano qawman faasiqeen
وقوم نوح من قبل إنهم كانوا قوما فـسقين
51:47
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
Wassamaaa’a banainaa haa bi aydinw wa innaa lamoosi’oon
وٱلسماء بنينـها بأييد وإنا لموسعون
51:48
And the earth We have spread out, and excellent is the preparer.
Wal arda farashnaahaa fani’mal maahidoon
وٱلأرض فرشنـها فنعم ٱلمـهدون
51:49
And of all things We created two mates [i.e., counterparts]; perhaps you will remember.
Wa min kulli shai’in khalaqnaa zawjaini la’allakum tazakkaroon
ومن كل شىء خلقنا زوجين لعلكم تذكرون
51:50
So flee to Allāh. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.
Fafirrooo ilal laahi innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen
ففروا إلى ٱلله إنى لكم منه نذير مبين
51:51
And do not make [as equal] with Allāh another deity. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.
Wa laa taj’aloo ma’al laahi ilaahan aakhara innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen
ولا تجعلوا مع ٱلله إلـها ءاخر إنى لكم منه نذير مبين
51:52
Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman."
Kazaalika maaa atal lazeena min qablihim mir Rasoolin illaa qaaloo saahirun aw majnoon
كذلك ما أتى ٱلذين من قبلهم من رسول إلا قالوا ساحر أو مجنون
51:53
Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people.
Atawaasaw bih; bal hum qawmun taaghoon
أتواصوا بهۦ بل هم قوم طاغون
51:54
So leave them, [O Muḥammad], for you are not to be blamed.
Fatawalla ‘anhum famaaa anta bimaloom
فتول عنهم فما أنت بملوم
51:55
And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.
Wa zakkir fa innaz zikraa tanfa’ul mu’mineen
وذكر فإن ٱلذكرى تنفع ٱلمؤمنين
51:56
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
Wa maa khalaqtul jinna wal insa illaa liya’budoon
وما خلقت ٱلجن وٱلإنس إلا ليعبدون
51:57
I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me.
Maaa ureedu minhum mir rizqinw wa maaa ureedu anyyut’imoon
ما أريد منهم من رزق وما أريد أن يطعمون
51:58
Indeed, it is Allāh who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.
Innal laaha Huwar Razzaaqu Zul Quwwatil Mateen
إن ٱلله هو ٱلرزاق ذو ٱلقوة ٱلمتين
51:59
And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their companions [i.e., predecessors], so let them not impatiently urge Me.
Fa inna lillazeena zalamoo zanoobam misla zanoobi ashaabihim falaa yasta’jiloon
فإن للذين ظلموا ذنوبا مثل ذنوب أصحـبهم فلا يستعجلون
51:60
And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised.
Fawailul lillazeena kafaroo miny yawmihimul lazee yoo’adoon
فويل للذين كفروا من يومهم ٱلذى يوعدون
