Surah Al-Ala


Surah Al-Ala (The Most High) is the 87. surah in Quran.Al-Ala surah is listed as the 8. by revelation order.

It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. This surah takes its name from the word mentioned in the first ayah.

This surah describes the Islamic view of existence, the Oneness of Allah, and Divine revelation, additionally mentioning rewards and punishments. Mankind often hides things from each other and from themselves as well. The sura reminds its readers that Allah knows the things that are declared and things that lie hidden.

The surah starts with exalting God and explaining how God created nature to balance earth. God promises Muhammad that he will not forget the Quran after recitation. Warn the people and people who fear Allah will accept it and the ones who do not will avoid it. They will all be rewarded accordingly in the hereafter. 

The last ayah confirms that the Quran and the previous books of Abraham and Moses are one and the same. 

87:1
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
Sabbihisma Rabbikal A’laa
سبح ٱسم ربك ٱلأعلى
87:2
Who created and proportioned
Allazee khalaqa fasawwaa
ٱلذى خلق فسوى
87:3
And who destined and [then] guided
Wallazee qaddara fahadaa
وٱلذى قدر فهدى
87:4
And who brings out the pasture
Wallazeee akhrajal mar’aa
وٱلذى أخرج ٱلمرعى
87:5
And [then] makes it black stubble.
Faja’alahoo ghusaaa’an ahwaa
فجعلهۥ غثاء أحوى
87:6
We will make you recite, [O Muḥammad], and you will not forget,
Sanuqri’uka falaa tansaaa
سنقرئك فلا تنسى
87:7
Except what Allāh should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.
Illaa maa shaaa’al laah; innahoo ya’lamul jahra wa maa yakhfaa
إلا ما شاء ٱلله إنهۥ يعلم ٱلجهر وما يخفى
87:8
And We will ease you toward ease.
Wa nu-yassiruka lilyusraa
ونيسرك لليسرى
87:9
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;
Fazakkir in nafa’atizzikraa
فذكر إن نفعت ٱلذكرى
87:10
He who fears [Allāh] will be reminded.
Sa yazzakkaru maiyakhshaa
سيذكر من يخشى
87:11
But the wretched one will avoid it
Wa yatajannabuhal ashqaa
ويتجنبها ٱلأشقى
87:12
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
Allazee yaslan Naaral kubraa
ٱلذى يصلى ٱلنار ٱلكبرى
87:13
Neither dying therein nor living.
Summa laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa
ثم لا يموت فيها ولا يحيى
87:14
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
Qad aflaha man tazakkaa
قد أفلح من تزكى
87:15
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
Wa zakaras ma Rabbihee fasallaa
وذكر ٱسم ربهۦ فصلى
87:16
But you prefer the worldly life,
Bal tu’siroonal hayaatad dunyaa
بل تؤثرون ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا
87:17
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
Wal Aakhiratu khairunw wa abqaa
وٱلـاخرة خير وأبقى
87:18
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,
Inna haazaa lafis suhu fil oolaa
إن هـذا لفى ٱلصحف ٱلأولى
87:19
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
Suhufi Ibraaheema wa Moosaa
