Surah Al-Layl


Surah Al-Layl (The Night) is the 92. surah in Quran.Al-Layl surah is listed as the 9. by revelation order.

It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. This surah takes its name from the word mentioned in the first ayah.

The surah opens with oaths to day, night and the creator of humans. The surah gives description of good and bad. It distinguishes between two different ways of life and shows us their ultimate end. Whoever denies goodness and considers themselves above others will be punished in hell. Only God guides a straight path. 

92:1
By the night when it covers
Wallaili izaa yaghshaa
وٱليل إذا يغشى
92:2
And [by] the day when it appears
Wannahaari izaa tajalla
وٱلنهار إذا تجلى
92:3
And [by] He who created the male and female,
Wa maa khalaqaz zakara wal unthaa
وما خلق ٱلذكر وٱلأنثى
92:4
Indeed, your efforts are diverse.
Inna sa’yakum lashattaa
إن سعيكم لشتى
92:5
As for he who gives and fears Allāh
Fa ammaa man a’taa wattaqaa
فأما من أعطى وٱتقى
92:6
And believes in the best [reward],
Wa saddaqa bil husnaa
وصدق بٱلحسنى
92:7
We will ease him toward ease.
Fasanu yassiruhoo lilyusraa
فسنيسرهۥ لليسرى
92:8
But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need
Wa ammaa man bakhila wastaghnaa
وأما من بخل وٱستغنى
92:9
And denies the best [reward],
Wa kazzaba bil husnaa
وكذب بٱلحسنى
92:10
We will ease him toward difficulty.
Fasanu yassiruhoo lil’usraa
فسنيسرهۥ للعسرى
92:11
And what will his wealth avail him when he falls?
Wa maa yughnee ‘anhu maaluhooo izaa taraddaa
وما يغنى عنه مالهۥ إذا تردى
92:12
Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance.
Inna ‘alainaa lal hudaa
إن علينا للهدى
92:13
And indeed, to us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
Wa inna lanaa lal Aakhirata wal oolaa
وإن لنا للـاخرة وٱلأولى
92:14
So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing.
Fa anzartukum naaran talazzaa
فأنذرتكم نارا تلظى
92:15
None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one
Laa yaslaahaaa illal ashqaa
لا يصلىها إلا ٱلأشقى
92:16
Who had denied and turned away.
Allazee kazzaba wa tawallaa
ٱلذى كذب وتولى
92:17
But the righteous one will avoid it
Wa sa yujannnabuhal atqaa
وسيجنبها ٱلأتقى
92:18
[He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself
Allazee yu’tee maalahoo yatazakkaa
ٱلذى يؤتى مالهۥ يتزكى
92:19
And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded
Wa maa li ahadin ‘indahoo min ni’matin tujzaaa
وما لأحد عندهۥ من نعمة تجزى
92:20
But only seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of his Lord, Most High.
Illab tighaaa’a wajhi rabbihil a ‘laa
إلا ٱبتغاء وجه ربه ٱلأعلى
92:21
And he is going to be satisfied.
Wa lasawfa yardaa
