Surah At-Tin


Surah At-Tin (The Fig) is the 95. surah in Quran.At-Tin surah is listed as the 28. by revelation order.

It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. This surah takes its name from the word mentioned in the first ayah. This is the only occurrence of the word at-tin (the fig) in the Quran. 

The main message of this Surah is God created humans the best way possible but was then given features to fall easily. The only way to not fall is to believe and do righteous deeds. This is a repeating theme of the Quran. The Quran constantly conveys the message that “ those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will be rewarded”.

The surah ends by reminding us that God is the fairest of judges and there will be no error on what God decrees. 

95:1
By the fig and the olive
Wat teeni waz zaitoon
وٱلتين وٱلزيتون
95:2
And [by] Mount Sinai
Wa toori sineen
وطور سينين
95:3
And [by] this secure city [i.e., Makkah],
Wa haazal balad-il ameen
وهـذا ٱلبلد ٱلأمين
95:4
We have certainly created man in the best of stature;
Laqad khalaqnal insaana fee ahsani taqweem
لقد خلقنا ٱلإنسـن فى أحسن تقويم
95:5
Then We return him to the lowest of the low,
Thumma ra dad naahu asfala saafileen
ثم رددنـه أسفل سـفلين
95:6
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.
Ill-lal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati; falahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon
إلا ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصـلحـت فلهم أجر غير ممنون
95:7
So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?
Fama yu kaz zibuka b’adu bid deen
فما يكذبك بعد بٱلدين
95:8
Is not Allāh the most just of judges?
Alai sal laahu bi-ahkamil haakimeen
أليس ٱلله بأحكم ٱلحـكمين
