Surah Az-Zalzalah


Surah Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) is the 99. surah in Quran.Az-Zalzalah surah is listed as the 93. by revelation order.

 It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. However, there is a heavy debate about it being either Meccan or Medinan surah. This surah takes its name from the word mentioned in the first ayah.

The surah begins by describing a terrible earthquake on the day of judgment. On that day, the Earth will release its burdens and show all it has witnessed about humans by the command of God’s will. Humans will be separated into categories by doing goods and bad and their report of deeds will be so detailed that not an atom’s weight of any good or evil act will be left unnoticed.

99:1
When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake
Izaa zul zilatil ardu zil zaalaha
إذا زلزلت ٱلأرض زلزالها
99:2
And the earth discharges its burdens
Wa akh rajatil ardu athqaalaha
وأخرجت ٱلأرض أثقالها
99:3
And man says, "What is [wrong] with it?" -
Wa qaalal insaanu ma laha
وقال ٱلإنسـن ما لها
99:4
That Day, it will report its news
Yawmaa izin tuhaddithu akhbaaraha
يومئذ تحدث أخبارها
99:5
Because your Lord has inspired [i.e., commanded] it.
Bi-anna rabbaka awhaa laha
بأن ربك أوحى لها
99:6
That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
Yawma iziny yas durun naasu ash tatal liyuraw a’maalahum
يومئذ يصدر ٱلناس أشتاتا ليروا أعمـلهم
99:7
So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,
Famaiy ya’mal mithqala zarratin khai raiy-yarah
فمن يعمل مثقال ذرة خيرا يرهۥ
99:8
And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
Wa maiy-y’amal mithqala zarratin sharraiy-yarah
ومن يعمل مثقال ذرة شرا يرهۥ
