Surah Al-Qasas


Surah Al-Qasas (The Stories) is the 28. surah in Quran.Al-Qasas surah is listed as the 49. by revelation order.

The meaning of surah Al-Qasas is The Stories. In total this surah is consist of 88 auahs. You can read Al-Qasas by word by word if you would like to examine it in details or click one of the ayahs below to check that ayah only.

It is considered to be a Meccan surah as it was revealed in Mecca. This surah takes its name from ayah 25. 

This surah mainly makes parallels between Muhammad and Moses. It talks about their life and how they were both rejected and oppressed by the leaders. This surah tells a very detailed story of Moses from birth to when he received revelations. 

The surah also talks about Qarun, an extremely wealthy leader that was very proud of himself and denied the grace of God on him and in return God destroyed him with his wealth.

These are verses of the clear Book.
Tilka Aayaatul Kitaabil mubeen
تلك ءايـت ٱلكتـب ٱلمبين
28:3
We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.
Natloo ‘alaika min naba-i Moosaa wa Fir’awna bilhaqqi liqawminy yu’miinoon
نتلوا عليك من نبإ موسى وفرعون بٱلحق لقوم يؤمنون
28:4
Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.
Inna Fir’awna ‘alaa fil ardi wa ja’ala ahlahaa shiya’ai yastad’ifu taaa’ifatam minhum yuzabbihu abnaaa’ahum wa yastahyee nisaaa’ahum; innahoo kaana minal mufsideen
إن فرعون علا فى ٱلأرض وجعل أهلها شيعا يستضعف طائفة منهم يذبح أبناءهم ويستحىۦ نساءهم إنهۥ كان من ٱلمفسدين
28:5
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors
Wa nureedu an namunna ‘alal lazeenas tud’ifoo fil ardi wa naj’alahum a’immatanw wa naj’alahumul waariseen
ونريد أن نمن على ٱلذين ٱستضعفوا فى ٱلأرض ونجعلهم أئمة ونجعلهم ٱلورثين
28:6
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Hāmān and their soldiers through them that which they had feared.
Wa numakkina lahum fil ardi wa nuriya Fir’awna wa Haamaana wa junoodahumaa minhum maa kaanoo yahzaroon
ونمكن لهم فى ٱلأرض ونرى فرعون وهـمـن وجنودهما منهم ما كانوا يحذرون
28:7
And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."
Wa awhainaaa ilaaa ummi Moosaaa an ardi’eehi faizaa khifti ‘alaihi fa alqeehi filyammi wa laa takhaafee wa laa tahzaneee innaa raaaddoohu ilaiki wa jaa’iloohu minal mursaleen
وأوحينا إلى أم موسى أن أرضعيه فإذا خفت عليه فألقيه فى ٱليم ولا تخافى ولا تحزنى إنا رادوه إليك وجاعلوه من ٱلمرسلين
28:8
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Hāmān and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.
Faltaqatahooo Aalu Fir’awna li yakoona lahum ‘aduwwanw wa hazanaa; inna Fir’awna wa Haamaana wa junooda humaa kaanoo khaati’een
فٱلتقطهۥ ءال فرعون ليكون لهم عدوا وحزنا إن فرعون وهـمـن وجنودهما كانوا خـطـين
28:9
And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye [i.e., pleasure] for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.
Wa qaalatim ra atu Fir’awna qurratu ‘aynil lee wa lak; laa taqtuloohu ‘asaaa aiyanfa’anaa aw nattakhizahoo waladanw wa hum laa yash’uroon
وقالت ٱمرأت فرعون قرت عين لى ولك لا تقتلوه عسى أن ينفعنا أو نتخذهۥ ولدا وهم لا يشعرون
28:10
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.
Wa asbaha fu’aadu ummi Moosaa faarighan in kaadat latubdee bihee law laaa arrabatnaa ‘alaa qalbihaa litakoona minal mu’mineen
وأصبح فؤاد أم موسى فـرغا إن كادت لتبدى بهۦ لولا أن ربطنا على قلبها لتكون من ٱلمؤمنين
28:11
And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.
Wa qaalat li ukhtihee qusseehi fabasurat bihee ‘an junubinw wahum laa yash’uroon
وقالت لأختهۦ قصيه فبصرت بهۦ عن جنب وهم لا يشعرون
28:12
And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"
Wa harramnaa ‘alaihil maraadi’a min qablu faqaalat hal adullukum ‘alaaa ahli baitiny yakfuloonahoo lakum wa hum lahoo naasihoon
وحرمنا عليه ٱلمراضع من قبل فقالت هل أدلكم على أهل بيت يكفلونهۥ لكم وهم لهۥ نـصحون
28:13
So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allāh is true. But most of them [i.e., the people] do not know.
Faradadnaahu ilaa ummihee kai taqarra ‘ainuhaa wa laa tahzana wa lita’lama anna wa’dal laahi haqqunw wa laakinna aksarahum laa ya’lamoon (section 1)
فرددنـه إلى أمهۦ كى تقر عينها ولا تحزن ولتعلم أن وعد ٱلله حق ولـكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون
28:14
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.
Wa lammaa balagha ashuddahoo wastawaaa aatai naahu hukmanw wa ‘ilmaa; wa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
ولما بلغ أشدهۥ وٱستوى ءاتينـه حكما وعلما وكذلك نجزى ٱلمحسنين
28:15
And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."
Wa dakhalal madeenata ‘alaa heene ghaflatim min ahlihaa fawajada feeha raju laini yaqtatilaani haazaa min shee’atihee wa haaza min ‘aduwwihee fastaghaasahul lazee min shee’atihee ‘alal lazee min ‘aduwwihee fawakazahoo Moosaa faqadaa ‘alaihi qaala haaza min ‘amalish Shaitaani innahoo ‘aduwwum mmudillum mubeen
ودخل ٱلمدينة على حين غفلة من أهلها فوجد فيها رجلين يقتتلان هـذا من شيعتهۦ وهـذا من عدوهۦ فٱستغـثه ٱلذى من شيعتهۦ على ٱلذى من عدوهۦ فوكزهۥ موسى فقضى عليه قال هـذا من عمل ٱلشيطـن إنهۥ عدو مضل مبين
28:16
He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Qaala Rabbi innee zalamtu nafsee faghfir lee faghafaralah; innahoo Huwal Ghafoorur Raheem
قال رب إنى ظلمت نفسى فٱغفر لى فغفر لهۥ إنهۥ هو ٱلغفور ٱلرحيم
28:17
He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals."
Qaala Rabbi bimaaa an’amta ‘alaiya falan akoona zaheeral lilmujrimeen
قال رب بما أنعمت على فلن أكون ظهيرا للمجرمين
28:18
And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."
Fa asbaha fil madeenati khaaa’ifany yataraqqabu fa izal lazis tansarahoo bil amsi yastasrikhuh; qaala lahoo moosaaa innaka laghawiyyum mubeen
فأصبح فى ٱلمدينة خائفا يترقب فإذا ٱلذى ٱستنصرهۥ بٱلأمس يستصرخهۥ قال لهۥ موسى إنك لغوى مبين
28:19
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."
Falammaaa an araada ai yabtisha billazee huwa ‘aduwwul lahumaa qaala yaa Moosaaa atureedu an taqtulanee kamaa qatalta nafsam bil amsi in tureedu illaaa an takoona jabbaaram fil ardi wa maa tureedu an takoona minal musliheen
فلما أن أراد أن يبطش بٱلذى هو عدو لهما قال يـموسى أتريد أن تقتلنى كما قتلت نفسا بٱلأمس إن تريد إلا أن تكون جبارا فى ٱلأرض وما تريد أن تكون من ٱلمصلحين
28:20
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
Wa jaaa’a rajulum min aqsal madeenati yas’aa qaala yaa Moosaaa innal mala a yaa tamiroona bika liyaqtulooka fakhruj innee laka minan naasiheen
وجاء رجل من أقصا ٱلمدينة يسعى قال يـموسى إن ٱلملأ يأتمرون بك ليقتلوك فٱخرج إنى لك من ٱلنـصحين
28:21
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."
Fakharaja minhaa khaaa ‘ifany-yataraqqab; qaala Rabbi najjinee minal qawmiz zaalimeen (section 2)
فخرج منها خائفا يترقب قال رب نجنى من ٱلقوم ٱلظـلمين
28:22
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."
Wa lammaa tawajjaha tilqaaa’a Madyana qaala ‘asaa Rabbeee ai yahdiyanee Sawaaa’as Sabeel
ولما توجه تلقاء مدين قال عسى ربى أن يهدينى سواء ٱلسبيل
28:23
And when he came to the water [i.e., well] of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women holding back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."
Wa lammaa warada maaa’a Madyana wajada ‘alaihi ummatam minannaasi yasqoona wa wajada min doonihimum ra ataini tazoodaani qaala maa khatbukumaa qaalataa laa nasqee hatta yusdirar ri’aaa’u wa aboonaa shaikhun kabeer
ولما ورد ماء مدين وجد عليه أمة من ٱلناس يسقون ووجد من دونهم ٱمرأتين تذودان قال ما خطبكما قالتا لا نسقى حتى يصدر ٱلرعاء وأبونا شيخ كبير
28:24
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."
Fasaqaa lahumaa summa tawallaaa ilaz zilli faqaala Rabbi innee limaaa anzalta ilaiya min khairin faqeer
فسقى لهما ثم تولى إلى ٱلظل فقال رب إنى لما أنزلت إلى من خير فقير
28:25
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people."
Fajaaa’at hu ihdaahumaa tamshee ‘alas tihyaaa’in qaalat inna abee yad’ooka li yajziyaka ajra maa saqaita lanaa; falammaa jaaa’ahoo wa qassa ‘alaihil qasasa qaala laa takhaf najawta minal qawmiz zaalimeen
فجاءته إحدىهما تمشى على ٱستحياء قالت إن أبى يدعوك ليجزيك أجر ما سقيت لنا فلما جاءهۥ وقص عليه ٱلقصص قال لا تخف نجوت من ٱلقوم ٱلظـلمين
28:26
One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."
Qaalat ihdaahumaa yaaa abatis taajirhu inna khaira manistaajartal qawiyyul ameen
قالت إحدىهما يـأبت ٱستـجره إن خير من ٱستـجرت ٱلقوى ٱلأمين
28:27
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allāh wills, from among the righteous."
Qaala innee ureedu an unkihaka ihdab nataiya haataini ‘alaaa an taajuranee samaaniya hijaj; fa in atmamta ‘ashran famin ‘indika wa maaa ureedu an ashuqqa ‘alaik; satajiduneee in shaaa’al laahu minas saaliheen
قال إنى أريد أن أنكحك إحدى ٱبنتى هـتين على أن تأجرنى ثمـنى حجج فإن أتممت عشرا فمن عندك وما أريد أن أشق عليك ستجدنى إن شاء ٱلله من ٱلصـلحين
28:28
[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete - there is no injustice to me, and Allāh, over what we say, is Witness."
Qaala zaalika bainee wa bainaka aiyamal ajalaini qadaitu falaa ‘udwaana ‘alaiya wallaahu ‘alaa ma naqoolu Wakeel (section 3)
قال ذلك بينى وبينك أيما ٱلأجلين قضيت فلا عدون على وٱلله على ما نقول وكيل
28:29
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves."
Falammmaa qadaa Moosal ajala wa saara bi ahliheee aanasa min jaanibit Toori naaran qaala li ahlihim kusooo inneee aanastu naaral la ‘alleee aateekum minhaa bikhabarin aw jazwatim minan naari la ‘allakum tastaloon
فلما قضى موسى ٱلأجل وسار بأهلهۦ ءانس من جانب ٱلطور نارا قال لأهله ٱمكثوا إنى ءانست نارا لعلى ءاتيكم منها بخبر أو جذوة من ٱلنار لعلكم تصطلون
28:30
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the tree, "O Moses, indeed I am Allāh, Lord of the worlds."
Falammaaa ataahaa noodiya min shaati’il waadil aimani fil buq’atil muubaarakati minash shajarati ai yaa Moosaaa inneee Anal laahu Rabbul ‘aalameen
فلما أتىها نودى من شـطئ ٱلواد ٱلأيمن فى ٱلبقعة ٱلمبـركة من ٱلشجرة أن يـموسى إنى أنا ٱلله رب ٱلعـلمين
28:31
And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.
Wa an alqi ‘asaaka falam maa ra aahaa tahtazzu ka annnahaa jaaannunw wallaa mudbiranw wa lam yu’aqqib; yaa Moosaa aqbil wa laa takhaf innaka minal aamineen
وأن ألق عصاك فلما رءاها تهتز كأنها جان ولى مدبرا ولم يعقب يـموسى أقبل ولا تخف إنك من ٱلـامنين
28:32
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."
Usluk yadaka fee jaibika takhruj baidaaa’a min ghairi sooo’inw wadmum ilaika janaahaka minar rahbi fazaanika burhaanaani mir Rabbika ilaa Fir’awna wa mala’ih; innahum kaanoo qawman faasiqeen
ٱسلك يدك فى جيبك تخرج بيضاء من غير سوء وٱضمم إليك جناحك من ٱلرهب فذنك برهـنان من ربك إلى فرعون وملإيهۦ إنهم كانوا قوما فـسقين
28:33
He said, "My Lord, indeed I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.
Qaala Rabbi innee qataltu minhum nafsan fa akhaafu ai yaqtuloon
قال رب إنى قتلت منهم نفسا فأخاف أن يقتلون
28:34
And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."
Wa akhee Haaroonu huwa afsahu minnee lisaanan fa arsilhu ma’iya rid ai yusaddiquneee innee akhaafu ai yukazziboon
وأخى هـرون هو أفصح منى لسانا فأرسله معى ردءا يصدقنى إنى أخاف أن يكذبون
28:35
[Allāh] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."
Qaala sanashuddu ‘adudaka bi akheeka wa naj’alu lakumaa sultaanan falaa yasiloona ilaikumaa; bi Aayaatinaa antumaa wa manit taba’akumal ghaaliboon
قال سنشد عضدك بأخيك ونجعل لكما سلطـنا فلا يصلون إليكما بـايـتنا أنتما ومن ٱتبعكما ٱلغـلبون
28:36
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."
Falammaa jaaa’ahum Moosaa bi Aayaatinaa baiyinaatin qaaloo maa haazaaa illaa sihrum muftaranw wa maa sami’naa bihaazaa feee aabaaa’inal awwaleen
فلما جاءهم موسى بـايـتنا بينـت قالوا ما هـذا إلا سحر مفترى وما سمعنا بهـذا فى ءابائنا ٱلأولين
28:37
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home. Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."
Wa qaala Moosaa Rabbeee a’alamu biman jaaa’a bilhudaa min ‘indihee wa man takoonu lahoo ‘aaqibatud daari innahoo laa yuflihuz zaalimoon
وقال موسى ربى أعلم بمن جاء بٱلهدى من عندهۦ ومن تكون لهۥ عـقبة ٱلدار إنهۥ لا يفلح ٱلظـلمون
28:38
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
Wa qaala Fir’awnu yaaa aiyuhal mala-u maa ‘alimtu lakum min ilaahin ghairee fa awqid lee yaa Haamaanu ‘alatteeni faj’al lee sarhal la’alleee attali’u ilaaa ilaahi Moosaa wa innee la azunnuhoo minal kaazibeen
وقال فرعون يـأيها ٱلملأ ما علمت لكم من إلـه غيرى فأوقد لى يـهـمـن على ٱلطين فٱجعل لى صرحا لعلى أطلع إلى إلـه موسى وإنى لأظنهۥ من ٱلكـذبين
28:39
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.
Wastakbara huwa wa junooduhoo fil ardi bighairil haqqi wa zannooo annahum ilainaa laa yurja’oon
وٱستكبر هو وجنودهۥ فى ٱلأرض بغير ٱلحق وظنوا أنهم إلينا لا يرجعون
28:40
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
Fa akhaznaahu wa junoo dahoo fanabaznaahum fil yammi fanzur kaifa kaana ‘aaqibatuz zaalimeen
فأخذنـه وجنودهۥ فنبذنـهم فى ٱليم فٱنظر كيف كان عـقبة ٱلظـلمين
28:41
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.
Wa ja’alnaahum a’immatany yad’oona ilan Naari wa Yawmal Qiyaamati laa yunsaroon
وجعلنـهم أئمة يدعون إلى ٱلنار ويوم ٱلقيـمة لا ينصرون
28:42
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.
Wa atba’naahum fee haazihid dunyaa la’natanw wa Yawmal Qiyaamati hum minal maqbooheen (section 4)
وأتبعنـهم فى هـذه ٱلدنيا لعنة ويوم ٱلقيـمة هم من ٱلمقبوحين
28:43
And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.
Wa laqad aatainaa Moosal Kitaaba mim ba’di maaa ahlaknal quroonal oolaa basaaa’ira linnaasi wa hudanw wa rahmatal la’allahum yata zakkkaroon
ولقد ءاتينا موسى ٱلكتـب من بعد ما أهلكنا ٱلقرون ٱلأولى بصائر للناس وهدى ورحمة لعلهم يتذكرون
28:44
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that].
Wa maa kunta bijaanibil gharbiyyi iz qadainaaa ilaa Moosal amra wa maa kunta minash shaahideen
وما كنت بجانب ٱلغربى إذ قضينا إلى موسى ٱلأمر وما كنت من ٱلشـهدين
28:45
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].
Wa laakinnaa anshaanaa quroonan fatataawala ‘alaihimul ‘umur; wa maa kunta saawiyan feee ahli Madyana tatloo ‘alaihim Aayaatinaa wa laakinnaa kunnaa mursileen
ولـكنا أنشأنا قرونا فتطاول عليهم ٱلعمر وما كنت ثاويا فى أهل مدين تتلوا عليهم ءايـتنا ولـكنا كنا مرسلين
28:46
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.
Wa maa kunta bijaanibit Toori iz naadainaa wa laakir rahmatam mir Rabbika litunzira qawmam maaa ataahum min nazeerim min qablika la’allahum yatazakkaroon
وما كنت بجانب ٱلطور إذ نادينا ولـكن رحمة من ربك لتنذر قوما ما أتىهم من نذير من قبلك لعلهم يتذكرون
28:47
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...
Wa law laaa an tuseebahum museebatum bimaa qaddamat aideehim fa yaqooloo Rabbanaa law laaa arsalta ilainaa Rasoolan fanattabi’a Aayaatika wa nakoona minal mu’mineen
ولولا أن تصيبهم مصيبة بما قدمت أيديهم فيقولوا ربنا لولا أرسلت إلينا رسولا فنتبع ءايـتك ونكون من ٱلمؤمنين
28:48
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other, and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers."
Falammaa jaaa’ahumul haqqu min ‘indinaa qaaloo law laa ootiya misla maaa ootiyaa Moosaa; awalam yakfuroo bimaaa ootiya Moosaa min qablu qaaloo sihraani tazaaharaa wa qaalooo innaa bikullin kaafiroon
فلما جاءهم ٱلحق من عندنا قالوا لولا أوتى مثل ما أوتى موسى أولم يكفروا بما أوتى موسى من قبل قالوا سحران تظـهرا وقالوا إنا بكل كـفرون
28:49
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."
Qul faatoo bi Kitaabim min ‘indil laahi huwa ahdaa minhu maaa attabi’hu in kuntum saadiqeen
قل فأتوا بكتـب من عند ٱلله هو أهدى منهما أتبعه إن كنتم صـدقين
28:50
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Fa il lam yastajeeboo laka fa’lam annamaa yattabi’oona ahwaaa’ahum; wa man adallu mimmanit taba’a hawaahu bighari hudam minal laah; innal laaha laa yahdil qawmaz zaalimeen (section 5)
فإن لم يستجيبوا لك فٱعلم أنما يتبعون أهواءهم ومن أضل ممن ٱتبع هوىه بغير هدى من ٱلله إن ٱلله لا يهدى ٱلقوم ٱلظـلمين
28:51
And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the word [i.e., the Qur’ān] that they might be reminded.
Wa laqad wassalnaa lahumul qawla la’allahum yatazakkaroon
ولقد وصلنا لهم ٱلقول لعلهم يتذكرون
28:52
Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it - they are believers in it.
Allazeena aatainaahu mul Kitaaba min qablihee hum bihee yu’minoon
ٱلذين ءاتينـهم ٱلكتـب من قبلهۦ هم بهۦ يؤمنون
28:53
And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [i.e., submitting to Allāh]."
Wa izaa yutlaa ‘alaihim qaaloo aamannaa biheee innahul haqqu mir rabbinaaa innaa kunnaa min qablihee muslimeen
وإذا يتلى عليهم قالوا ءامنا بهۦ إنه ٱلحق من ربنا إنا كنا من قبلهۦ مسلمين
28:54
Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend.
Ulaaa’ika yu’tawna ajrahum marratayni bimaa sabaroo wa yadra’oona bil hasanatis saiyi’ata wa mimmmaa razaq naahum yunfiqoon
أولـئك يؤتون أجرهم مرتين بما صبروا ويدرءون بٱلحسنة ٱلسيئة ومما رزقنـهم ينفقون
28:55
And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."
Wa izaa sami’ul laghwa a’radoo ‘anhu wa qaaloo lanaaa a’maalunaa wa lakum a’maalukum salaamun ‘alaikum laa nabtaghil jaahileen
وإذا سمعوا ٱللغو أعرضوا عنه وقالوا لنا أعمـلنا ولكم أعمـلكم سلـم عليكم لا نبتغى ٱلجـهلين
28:56
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.
Innaka laa tahdee man ahbabta wa laakinn Allaha yahdee mai yashaaa’; wa huwa a’lamu bil muhtadeen
إنك لا تهدى من أحببت ولـكن ٱلله يهدى من يشاء وهو أعلم بٱلمهتدين
28:57
And they [i.e., the Quraysh] say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land." Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.
Wa qaalooo in nattabi’il hudaa ma’aka nutakhattaf min ardinaa; awalam numakkkil lahum haraman aaminany yujbaaa ilaihi samaraatu kulli shai’ir rizqam mil ladunnaa wa laakinna aksarahum laa ya’lamoon
وقالوا إن نتبع ٱلهدى معك نتخطف من أرضنا أولم نمكن لهم حرما ءامنا يجبى إليه ثمرت كل شىء رزقا من لدنا ولـكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون
28:58
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.
Wa kam ahlaknaa min qaryatim batirat ma’eeshatahaa fatilka masaakinuhum lam tuskam mim ba’dihim illaa qaleelaa; wa kunnaa Nahnul waariseen
وكم أهلكنا من قرية بطرت معيشتها فتلك مسـكنهم لم تسكن من بعدهم إلا قليلا وكنا نحن ٱلورثين
28:59
And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother [i.e., principal city] a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.
Wa maa kaana Rabbuka muhlikal quraa hattaa yab’asa feee ummihaa Rasoolany yatloo ‘alaihim aayaatina; wa maa kunnaa muhlikil quraaa illaa wa ahluhaa zaalimoon
وما كان ربك مهلك ٱلقرى حتى يبعث فى أمها رسولا يتلوا عليهم ءايـتنا وما كنا مهلكى ٱلقرى إلا وأهلها ظـلمون
28:60
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?
Wa maaa ooteetum min shai’in famataa’ul hayaatid dunyaa wa zeenatuhaa; wa maa ‘indal laahi khairunw wa abqaa; afalaa ta’qiloon (section 6)
وما أوتيتم من شىء فمتـع ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا وزينتها وما عند ٱلله خير وأبقى أفلا تعقلون
28:61
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [i.e., obtain] like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?
Afamanw wa’adnaahu wa’dan hasanan fahuwa laaqeehi kamam matta’naahu mataa’al hayaatid dunyaa summa huwa Yawmal Qiyaamati minal muhdareen
أفمن وعدنـه وعدا حسنا فهو لـقيه كمن متعنـه متـع ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا ثم هو يوم ٱلقيـمة من ٱلمحضرين
28:62
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
Wa Yawma yunaadeehim fa-yaqoolu aina shurakaaa ‘iyal lazeena kuntum taz’umoon
ويوم يناديهم فيقول أين شركاءى ٱلذين كنتم تزعمون
28:63
Those upon whom the word will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship [i.e., obey] us."
Qaalal lazeena haqqa ‘alaihimul qawlu Rabbanaa haaa’ulaaa’il lazeena aghwainaa aghwainaahu kamaa ghawainaa tabarraanaaa ilaika maa kaanoo iyyaanaa ya’budoon
قال ٱلذين حق عليهم ٱلقول ربنا هـؤلاء ٱلذين أغوينا أغوينـهم كما غوينا تبرأنا إليك ما كانوا إيانا يعبدون
28:64
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners,'" and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!
Wa qeelad ‘oo shurakaaa’akum fada’awhum falam yastajeeboo lahum wa ra awul ‘azaab; law annahum kaanoo yahtadoon
وقيل ٱدعوا شركاءكم فدعوهم فلم يستجيبوا لهم ورأوا ٱلعذاب لو أنهم كانوا يهتدون
28:65
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"
Wa Yawma yunaadeehim fa yaqoolu maazaaa ajabtumul mursaleen
ويوم يناديهم فيقول ماذا أجبتم ٱلمرسلين
28:66
But the information will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.
Fa’amiyat ‘alaihimul ambaaa’u Yawma’izin fahum laa yatasaaa’aloon
فعميت عليهم ٱلأنباء يومئذ فهم لا يتساءلون
28:67
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is expected [i.e., promised by Allāh] that he will be among the successful.
Fa ammaa man taaba wa aamana wa ‘amila saalihan fa’asaaa ai yakoona minal mufliheen
فأما من تاب وءامن وعمل صـلحا فعسى أن يكون من ٱلمفلحين
28:68
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.
Wa Rabbuka yakhuluqu maa yashaaa’u wa yakhtaar; maa kaana lahumul khiyarah; Subhannal laahi wa Ta’aalaa ‘ammmaa yushrikoon
وربك يخلق ما يشاء ويختار ما كان لهم ٱلخيرة سبحـن ٱلله وتعـلى عما يشركون
28:69
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.
Wa Rabbuka ya’lamu maa tukinnu sudooruhum wa maa yu’linoon
وربك يعلم ما تكن صدورهم وما يعلنون
28:70
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.
Wa Huwal laahu laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa lahul hamdu fil oolaa wal Aakhirati wa lahul hukmu wa ilaihi turja’oon
وهو ٱلله لا إلـه إلا هو له ٱلحمد فى ٱلأولى وٱلـاخرة وله ٱلحكم وإليه ترجعون
28:71
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"
Qul ara’aitum in ja’alal laahu ‘alaikumul laila sarmadan ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati man ilaahun ghairul laahi yaa teekum bidiyaaa’in afalaa tasma’oon
قل أرءيتم إن جعل ٱلله عليكم ٱليل سرمدا إلى يوم ٱلقيـمة من إلـه غير ٱلله يأتيكم بضياء أفلا تسمعون
28:72
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?"
Qul ara’aitum in ja’alal laahu ‘alaikumun nahaara sarmadan ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati man ilaahun ghairul laahi yaateekum bilailin taskunoona feehi afalaa tubsiroon
قل أرءيتم إن جعل ٱلله عليكم ٱلنهار سرمدا إلى يوم ٱلقيـمة من إلـه غير ٱلله يأتيكم بليل تسكنون فيه أفلا تبصرون
28:73
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.
Wa mir rahmatihee ja’ala lakumul laila wannahaara litaskunoo feehi wa litabtaghoo min fadlihee wa la’allakum tashkuroon
ومن رحمتهۦ جعل لكم ٱليل وٱلنهار لتسكنوا فيه ولتبتغوا من فضلهۦ ولعلكم تشكرون
28:74
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
Wa Yawma yunaadeehim fa yaqoolu aina shurakaaa’iyal lazeena kuntum tazz’umoon
ويوم يناديهم فيقول أين شركاءى ٱلذين كنتم تزعمون
28:75
And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allāh, and lost from them is that which they used to invent.
Wa naza’naa min kulli ummatin shaheedan faqulnaa haatoo burhaanakum fa’alimooo annal haqqa lillaahi wa dalla ‘anhum maa kaanoo yaftaroon (section 7)
ونزعنا من كل أمة شهيدا فقلنا هاتوا برهـنكم فعلموا أن ٱلحق لله وضل عنهم ما كانوا يفترون
28:76
Indeed, Qārūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allāh does not like the exultant.
Inna Qaaroona kaana min qawmi Moosaa fabaghaaa ‘alaihim wa aatainaahu minal kunoozi maaa inna mafaati hahoo latanooo’u bil’usbati ulil quwwati iz qaala lahoo qawmuhoo laa tafrah innal laahaa laa yuhibbul fariheen
إن قـرون كان من قوم موسى فبغى عليهم وءاتينـه من ٱلكنوز ما إن مفاتحهۥ لتنوأ بٱلعصبة أولى ٱلقوة إذ قال لهۥ قومهۥ لا تفرح إن ٱلله لا يحب ٱلفرحين
28:77
But seek, through that which Allāh has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allāh has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allāh does not like corrupters."
Wabtaghi feemaaa aataakal laahud Daaral Aakhirata wa laa tansa naseebaka minad dunyaa wa ahsin kamaaa ahsanal laahu ilaika wa laa tabghil fasaada fil ardi innal laaha laa yuhibbul mufsideen
وٱبتغ فيما ءاتىك ٱلله ٱلدار ٱلـاخرة ولا تنس نصيبك من ٱلدنيا وأحسن كما أحسن ٱلله إليك ولا تبغ ٱلفساد فى ٱلأرض إن ٱلله لا يحب ٱلمفسدين
28:78
He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.
Qaala innamaaa ootee tuhoo ‘alaa ‘ilmin ‘indeee; awalam ya’lam annal laaha qad ahlaka min qablihee minal qurooni man huwa ashaddu minhu quwwatanw wa aksaru jam’aa; wa laa yus’alu ‘an zunoobihimul mujrimoon
قال إنما أوتيتهۥ على علم عندى أولم يعلم أن ٱلله قد أهلك من قبلهۦ من ٱلقرون من هو أشد منه قوة وأكثر جمعا ولا يسـل عن ذنوبهم ٱلمجرمون
28:79
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qārūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."
Fakharaja ‘alaa qawmihee fee zeenatih; qaalal lazeena yureedoonal hayaatad dunyaa yaalaita lanaa misla maaa ootiya Qaaroonu innahoo lazoo hazzin ‘azeem
فخرج على قومهۦ فى زينتهۦ قال ٱلذين يريدون ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا يـليت لنا مثل ما أوتى قـرون إنهۥ لذو حظ عظيم
28:80
But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."
Wa qaalal lazeena ootul ‘ilma wailakum sawaabul laahi khairul liman aamana wa ‘amila saalihaa; wa laa yulaq qaahaaa illas saabiroon
وقال ٱلذين أوتوا ٱلعلم ويلكم ثواب ٱلله خير لمن ءامن وعمل صـلحا ولا يلقىها إلا ٱلصـبرون
28:81
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves.
Fakhasafnaa bihee wa bidaarihil arda famaa kaana lahoo min fi’atiny yansuroo nahoo min doonil laahi wa maa kaana minal muntasireen
فخسفنا بهۦ وبداره ٱلأرض فما كان لهۥ من فئة ينصرونهۥ من دون ٱلله وما كان من ٱلمنتصرين
28:82
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allāh extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allāh had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!"
Wa asbahal lazeena tamannaw makaanahoo bil amsi yaqooloona waika annal laaha yabsutur rizqa limany ya shaaa’u min ‘ibaadihee wa yaqdiru law laaa am mannal laahu ‘alainaa lakhasafa binaa waika annahoo laa yuflihul kaafiroon (section 8)
وأصبح ٱلذين تمنوا مكانهۥ بٱلأمس يقولون ويكأن ٱلله يبسط ٱلرزق لمن يشاء من عبادهۦ ويقدر لولا أن من ٱلله علينا لخسف بنا ويكأنهۥ لا يفلح ٱلكـفرون
28:83
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
Tilkad Daarul Aakhiratu naj’aluhaa lillazeena laa yureedoona ‘uluwwan fil ardi wa laa fasaadaa; wal ‘aaqibatu lilmuttaqeen
تلك ٱلدار ٱلـاخرة نجعلها للذين لا يريدون علوا فى ٱلأرض ولا فسادا وٱلعـقبة للمتقين
28:84
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.
Man jaaa’a bilhasanati falahoo khairum minhaa wa man jaaa’a bissaiyi’ati falaa yujzal lazeena ‘amilus saiyiaati illaa maa kaanoo ya’maloon
من جاء بٱلحسنة فلهۥ خير منها ومن جاء بٱلسيئة فلا يجزى ٱلذين عملوا ٱلسيـات إلا ما كانوا يعملون
28:85
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."
Innal lazee farada ‘alaikal Qur-aana laraaadduka ilaa ma’aad; qur Rabbeee a’lamu man jaaa’a bil hudaa wa man huwa fee dalaalim mubeen
إن ٱلذى فرض عليك ٱلقرءان لرادك إلى معاد قل ربى أعلم من جاء بٱلهدى ومن هو فى ضلـل مبين
28:86
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.
Wa maa kunta tarjooo ai yulqaaa ilaikal Kitaabu illaa rahmatan mir Rabbika falaa takoonanna zaheeral lil kaafireen
وما كنت ترجوا أن يلقى إليك ٱلكتـب إلا رحمة من ربك فلا تكونن ظهيرا للكـفرين
28:87
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.
Wa laa yasuddunnaka ‘an Aayaatil laahi ba’da iz unzilat ilaika wad’u ilaa Rabbika wa laa takoonanna minal mushrikeen
ولا يصدنك عن ءايـت ٱلله بعد إذ أنزلت إليك وٱدع إلى ربك ولا تكونن من ٱلمشركين
28:88
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.
Wa laa tad’u ma’al laahi ilaahan aakhar; laaa ilaaha illaa Hoo; kullu shai’in haalikun illaa Wajhah; lahul hukkmu wa ilaihi turja’oon (section 9)
ولا تدع مع ٱلله إلـها ءاخر لا إلـه إلا هو كل شىء هالك إلا وجههۥ له ٱلحكم وإليه ترجعون
