It is considered to be a Meccan Surah as it was believed to be revealed in Mecca. The name of surah comes from the opening ayah.
The surah starts with oaths to winds that the resurrection day will come and when it comes they sky will be ripped open, mountains will crumble and the stars are obliterated. All unbelievers old or now will be punished.
Humans were created from water and the world they live in from earth and it was designed for humans to live on. End of the surah describes the punishment of the unbelievers and the reward of the believers.
This Surah affirms the believers of the day of Resurrection and the promised afterlife and it warns people to be conscious of their actions. We are given free will and with that comes choices to do either right or wrong, we can either accept or deny the truths presented in the Qur’an.
In the last ayah, it is clearly stated that after the Quran, which is the word of God, one should not believe in any hadith or statement, that is, the Quran is the only source of Islam.
