This surah is believed to have been revealed with reference to the battle of badr. Ayat 35-21 discuss the story of Prophet Abraham with revelation to the well-known prayer asking for the security and prosperity of Mecca. The surah also discusses being grateful for the gifts of Allah, why Prophets were sent to specific communities, and a warning of choosing this life over the Hereafter.
Surahs of the Quran are not always named after their thematic content, but in this case a large section of the surah (ayah 35–41) focuses on a prayer of Abraham's, which reveals the quality of Abraham's character.
The surah emphasizes that only God knows what goes on inside a man's heart, implying we must accept each other's words in good faith. It is believed to have been revealed in Mecca. It was revealed around 2-3 years before Hijrah, in a later stage of Muhammad preaching in Mecca when persecution of him and fellow Muslims had become severe.

The surah states that God is able to destroy the infidels and to create others in their stead and Idolatrous leaders will confess themselves unable to assist their deluded followers in the day of judgment.
Even Satan will desert idolaters in hell. The reward of the righteous in Paradise and The idolaters threatened with hell-fire. Abraham prays for himself and children that they may be kept from idolatry, He also asks pardon for himself and his parents. God is not regardless of what infidels do, and will certainly punish them and The subtle plotting of the unbelievers will be brought to confusion.
